a) Enrolments will be accepted for all three and four year old
pre-school places in the City of Whitehorse from the child's
second birthday.
b) Enrolment forms are available from any pre-school centre
throughout Whitehorse, City of Whitehorse Council Offices, City
of Whitehorse Maternal and Child Health Centres, Whitehorse
Information Centre at Forest Hill Shopping Centre and from downloading
the application from the WPSA or the Barriburn web site.
The forms to be returned when completed to the Central Enrolment
Officer (CEO) together with the booking fee, as stated on the
Enrolment Form.
c) The CEO processes the enrolment forms and returns them to
the Enrolment Officer of the preferred pre-school after enrolments
close on 30th June.
What is the preschool's admission policy?
Your child must be 3 by 30th April to attend 3YO kinder, or
4 by 30th April to attend 4YO kinder.
Can
I apply before my baby is born?
You should apply after the child 2nd birthday.
At
what age can I send my child to Barriburn Preschool?
See above (enrolment policy).
Does
my child need to be potty trained to start?
Toilet training is preferred, but staff will remind children
to use the toilet, as well as help children who have occasional
'accidents'. You may wish to keep your child in training pants
or pull-ups. Staff will call you if child has soiled pants.
What
should we do when my child arrives and departs the preschool?
Sign in (the book is on a table next to the front door), greet
the teachers, settle your child, then leave. After the session
in over, your child will be dismissed by staff to the parent/guardian/carer.
Please remember to sign out before leaving. For the 3YO group,
please place your snackbox in the blue basket near the sign
in table, and collect it before leaving. Children's work &
notices will be placed into named pockets outside the front
door for collection.
What
should my child bring to the kinder?
A bag, big enough to hold snack/lunch box, drink bottle, hat,
spare clothes, Show and Tell (for 4YO group); coat (on cold
days). Snack boxes for both groups should contain healthy food,
but NO NUTS.
My
child has food allergies. What can I do?
The kinder has an Anaphylaxis Policy which recommends that no
nuts are brought to Kinder. Children eat their own food from
their own lunch boxes. Staff have anaphylaxis training. If you
have any further concerns, please approach the teachers.
What
should my child wear?
Comfortable clothes for playing, painting, pasting, climbing;
no slip on shoes, scuffs or "crocs". Girls should avoid long
skirts as they may trip on them at playtime.
What
about illness or accidents?
Children shouldn't come to kinder if they are unwell. If they
become unwell during the session staff will contact the parent/guardian/carer.
Accidents which need attention will be written in the Accident
Book, and the parent/guardian carer will be notified and asked
to sign the Accident sheet.
My
child has been/will be/is absent. Who do we notify?
Notify the kinder especially if more than 2 sessions will be
missed.
How
can I pay my child's school fees?
Internet banking, cash or cheque (bounced cheques will incur
a fee). For more details, please contact the Enrolment Officer
at 0407055580.
I
need to change my child's enrolment information. What do I do?
Contact WPSA especially
for change of address, change of preference, repeat year, or
deferred place.
Our
circumstances have changed and I need to cancel my child's space
at Preschool. What happens now?
Contact WPSA and the Kindergarten
(email barriburn.kin@kindergarten.vic.gov.au
or call 9801 6771)
What
if I don't live in the City of Whitehorse?
You don't need to live in the municipality. Just follow the
standard enrolment procedure through WPSA.
Am
I expected to help out at the kinder?
We understand that other committments do not leave a lot of
spare time. We appreciate the time you can spend assisting,
whether it be by coming to one or two sessions per term when
your child attends (kinder duty), attending one of the working
bees, assisting at a major fundraising or attending a maintenance
weekend (approx 1 hour once during the year). The deposit you
pay includes a maintenance levy. That can be refunded to you
at the end of the year if you attend your nominated maintenance
weekend and either a working bee or major fundraising event.
Alternative arrangements can be made directly with the Committee
if you wish to assist but are unable to complete the maintenance
requirements.
It's
half way through the year and I'd now like to enrol my child
in preschool. Can I do that?
You would need to follow the normal enrolment procedures through
WPSA. They can advise which preschools in the area have places
available. If Barriburn has a vacancy, you would need to speak
to the Enrolments Officer to find out what type of pro-rata
of fees / enrolment deposit would be applicable.
